Cosmetics Price in Germany (FOB) - 2022

The average cosmetics export price stood at $20,371 per ton in 2022, rising by 1.7% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, cosmetics export price increased by +56.6% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($45,449 per ton), while the average price for exports to Luxembourg ($4,872 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cosmetics Price in Germany (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average cosmetics import price amounted to $20,619 per ton, with a decrease of -3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 15%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $21,385 per ton, and then declined modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($44,326 per ton), while the price for Spain ($7,032 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cosmetics Exports in Germany

In 2022, overseas shipments of cosmetics increased by 2% to 205K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, exports, however, showed a mild decline.

In value terms, cosmetics exports expanded to $4.2B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Cosmetics Imports in Germany

In 2022, the amount of cosmetics imported into Germany reached 126K tons, leveling off at 2021 figures. In general, imports, however, recorded a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 3.7% against the previous year.

In value terms, cosmetics imports shrank to $2.6B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.7B, and then contracted in the following year.
