Chocolate Price in Hong Kong SAR (CIF) - 2023
The average chocolate import price stood at $5,232 per ton in June 2023, which is down by -5.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 an increase of 40% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $11,248 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($16,048 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($2,196 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Chocolate Price in Hong Kong SAR (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average chocolate export price amounted to $8,207 per ton, rising by 50% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when the average export price increased by 59%. The export price peaked at $12,509 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Macao SAR ($20,767 per ton), while the average price for exports to China stood at $2,561 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Macao SAR (+1.8%).
Chocolate Imports in Hong Kong SAR
After two years of decline, purchases abroad of chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa increased by 8.8% to 809 tons in 2022. Overall, imports, however, saw a precipitous setback.
In value terms, chocolate imports soared to $6.7M in 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a drastic downturn.

Chocolate Exports in Hong Kong SAR
In 2022, exports of chocolate and other food preparations containing cocoa from Hong Kong SAR declined markedly to 102 tons, with a decrease of -77.3% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports saw a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 172% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 451 tons, and then contracted markedly in the following year.
In value terms, chocolate exports dropped remarkably to $840K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a sharp decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 70%.
