Pulses Production in Syria

Pulses production in Syria amounted to 4.0 thousand tonnes in 2015, declining by -9.3% against the previous year level. Overall, the pulses output pursued a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -8.4%. This general negative trend was largely conditioned by a noticeable curtailment of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction of the yield figures. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012, when the output figure increased by -+5% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the pulses production in Syria attained its maximum volume of 8.0 thousand tonnes in 2007. From 2008 to 2015, the total pulses output growth failed to regain its strength.
