Primary Fiber Crops Production in South Africa

Primary fiber crops production in South Africa amounted to 2.5 thousand tonnes in 2015, standing approx. at the previous year level. Overall, the primary fiber crops output pursued a moderate decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern did not record any noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. This general negative trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction of the yield figures.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +5% from the previous year level. In that year, the primary fiber crops production in South Africa attained its maximum volume of 2.8 thousand tonnes. From 2009 to 2015, the primary fiber crops output in growth failed to regain its strength.
