Primary Fiber Crops Production in Ethiopia

Primary fiber crops production in Ethiopia amounted to 19.4 thousand tonnes in 2015, declining by -4.4% against the previous year level. Overall, the primary fiber crops output pursued a moderate growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. This general positive trend was largely conditioned by a robust expansion of the harvested area and a noticeable contraction of the yield figures.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +12% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the primary fiber crops production in Ethiopia attained its maximum volume of 23.0 thousand tonnes in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, the total primary fiber crops output growth failed to regain its strength.
