Primary Fiber Crops Production in Canada

Primary fiber crops production in Canada amounted to 28.8 thousand tonnes in 2015, standing approx. at the previous year level. Overall, the primary fiber crops output pursued a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -3.6%. This general negative trend was largely conditioned by a noticeable curtailment of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +4% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the primary fiber crops production in Canada attained its maximum volume of 38.6 thousand tonnes in 2007.
