Potato Production in New Zealand

Potato production in New Zealand amounted to 390.4 thousand tonnes in 2015, declining by -12.5% against the previous year level. Overall, the potato output pursued a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total output figures decreased at an average annual rate of -2.6%. This general negative trend was largely conditioned by a noticeable curtailment of the harvested area and a moderate improvement of the yield figures. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +8% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the potato production in New Zealand attained its maximum volume of 562.4 thousand tonnes in 2012. From 2013 to 2015, the total potato output growth failed to regain its strength.
