Which Country Imports the Most Uncoated Kraft Liner in the World?

IndexBox has just published a new report "World: Umbrellas ; Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2025". Here is a summary of the report's key findings.

In 2016, the global imports of umbrella stood at 1M tonnes, import ,therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year figure. Overall, umbrella imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, an increase of 7% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, global umbrella imports reached its maximum volume of 1.1M tonnes in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, umbrella imports stood at $2.5B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, global umbrella imports reached its maximum level of $2.7B in 2015, falling back in the following year.

Umbrella Imports By Country

China (534K tonnes) prevails in umbrella imports structure, accounting for 534K tonnes, which was near 53% of total imports in 2016. It was distantly followed by the U.S. (86K tonnes), committing 9% share of total umbrella imports. Japan (38K tonnes), Germany (29K tonnes), France (21K tonnes), Brazil (20K tonnes), South Korea (18K tonnes), the UK (17K tonnes), the Philippines (16K tonnes), the Netherlands (16K tonnes), and Italy (16K tonnes) occupied the slight share of total imports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. At the same time, the Philippines (+9.9%), the Netherlands (+3.5%), France (+2.3%), and the U.S. (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Philippines emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +9.9% from 2007;2016. South Korea, Brazil, and Japan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Germany (;2.3%), the UK (;4.1%), and Italy (;5.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest importers remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest umbrella markets worldwide were the U.S. ($493M), Japan ($288M) and Germany ($180M), with a combined 38% share of global imports. These countries were followed by the Philippines, France, South Korea, the UK, Italy, the Netherlands, Brazil and China, which together accounted for a further 23%.

China (+14.9% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of umbrella imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Umbrella Import Prices By Country

The average umbrella import price stood at $2,522 per tonne in 2016, descending by ;6.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2016 it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%.The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when it surged by 10% year;to;year. Global umbrella import peaked of $2,690 per tonne in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was the Philippines ($8,203 per tonne), while China ($13 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of umbrella import prices was attained by China (+14.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, uncoated kraft liner imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global uncoated kraft liner import peaked in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, uncoated kraft liner imports totaled $12B in 2016. In general, uncoated kraft liner imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global uncoated kraft liner imports reached its maximum level of $14B in 2011- however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Uncoated Kraft Liner Imports By Country

In 2016, the U.S. (6.1M tonnes), distantly followed by Sweden (2.9M tonnes), and Germany (1.9M tonnes) represented the major importers of uncoated kraft liner, together constituting 36% of total imports. The following importers - Italy (1.2M tonnes), Mexico (1.1M tonnes), China (1M tonnes), Russia (809K tonnes), Canada (799K tonnes), Austria (731K tonnes), Finland (677K tonnes), Australia (666K tonnes), and Spain (664K tonnes) together made up 25% of total imports.

The U.S. experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. At the same time, Mexico (+3.0%), Germany (+2.7%), and Australia (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mexico emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +3.0% from 2007-2016. Austria, Italy, Finland, Sweden, Russia, China, and Spain experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Canada (-3.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest importers remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Germany ($1.3B), Italy ($822M) and the U.S. ($768M) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together accounting for 24% of global imports.Mexico, China, Spain, Canada, Austria, Australia, Finland, Sweden and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.

Russia (+5.3% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the uncoated kraft liner imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Uncoated Kraft Liner Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for uncoated kraft liner amounted to $392 per tonne, lowering by -4.4% against the previous year. Overall, uncoated kraft liner import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when import increased by 15% y-o-y. Global uncoated kraft liner import peaked of $476 per tonne in 2011- however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was Mexico ($691 per tonne), while Sweden ($24 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of uncoated kraft liner import prices was attained by Russia (+5.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
