Which Country Imports the Most Tyres For Agriculture and Other Off The Road Vehicles in the World?

In 2016, the amount of agriculture tire imported worldwide stood at 26M tonnes, rising by 4% against the previous year figure. Overall, agriculture tire imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when it surged by 4% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global agriculture tire imports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, agriculture tire imports stood at $71B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Global agriculture tire import peaked of $85B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Agriculture Tire Imports By Country

China (6.3M tonnes) was the major importer of agriculture tire in the world, accounting for 6.3M tonnes, which was near 25% of total imports in 2016. Japan (1.6M tonnes) held a 6% share (based on tonnes) of global agriculture tire imports, which put it in second place, following Germany (6%), and France (5%). The U.S. (1.1M tonnes), South Korea (889K tonnes), Thailand (640K tonnes), Spain (629K tonnes), Indonesia (625K tonnes), the UK (623K tonnes), Poland (552K tonnes), and Australia (493K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, average annual rates of growth with regard to agriculture tire imports into China stood at +3.2%. At the same time, Indonesia (+6.9%), Australia (+4.2%), Poland (+2.5%), Germany (+2.4%), and Spain (+1.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Indonesia emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +6.9% from 2007-2016. South Korea, Japan, the UK, Thailand, and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the U.S. (-12.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2016, the share of the U.S. increased by 10% percentage points, while China (-6.0%) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the U.S. ($14B) constitutes the largest market for imported agriculture tire worldwide, making up 19% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($6.6B), with the share of 9% of global imports. It was followed by France, with the share of 4%.

In the U.S., agriculture tire imports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the period from 2007-2016. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates: Germany (+1.9% per year) and France (+1.0% per year).

Agriculture Tire Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for agriculture tire amounted to $2,767 per tonne, reducing by -7.1% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2016 it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%.The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when import increased by 18% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average agriculture tire import price reached its maximum level of $3,563 per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($13 per kg), while China ($113 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of agriculture tire import prices was attained by the U.S. (+19.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
