Which Country Imports the Most Turkey Meat in the World?

Global turkey meat imports amounted to 868 thousand tonnes in 2015, falling by -8.8% against the previous year level. Overall, the global turkey meat imports indicated a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume decreased at an average annual rate of -1.3% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +11% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global turkey meat imports attained its maximum volume of 1,021 thousand tonnes in 2012. From 2013 to 2015, the total turkey meat imports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global turkey meat imports amounted to $2,505 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global turkey meat imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +1.4%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Turkey Meat Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the turkey meat imports in 2015 were Mexico (126 thousand tonnes), Germany (122 thousand tonnes), Benin (58 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 35% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of turkey meat imports among the main importing countries was attained by Benin (+11.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany (407 million USD), Mexico (360 million USD) and Austria (167 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2015, together accounting for 37% of total imports.

France (+7.5% per year) had the highest growth rates of turkey meat imports among the main importing countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
