Which Country Imports the Most Spinach in the World?

Global spinach imports amounted to 161 thousand tonnes in 2015, lowering by -3.7% against the previous year level. Overall, the global spinach imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +18% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global spinach imports attained its maximum volume of 167 thousand tonnes in 2014, falling back in the following year.

In value terms, global spinach imports amounted to $303 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global spinach imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +11.1%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Spinach Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the spinach imports in 2015 were Canada (36 thousand tonnes), Germany (19 thousand tonnes), Belgium (19 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 46% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of spinach imports among the main importing countries was attained by Germany (+23.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of spinach in absolute volumes was Canada (114 million USD), making up 38% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the United Kingdom (42 million USD), with a share of 14% of global imports. Moreover, spinach imports in Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, the United Kingdom (42 million USD), threefold. It was followed by the Netherlands with a share of 8%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of spinach imports in Canada was at +14.1%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: the United Kingdom (+2.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+16.9% per year).
