In 2016, the amount of shampoo imported worldwide stood at 3M tonnes, surging by 4% against the previous year level. Overall, shampoo imports continue to indicate a conspicuous increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012, when import increased by 8059% from the previous year level. In that year, global shampoo imports attained its maximum volume of 213M tonnes. From 2013 to 2016, growth of global shampoo imports stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, shampoo imports totaled $12B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Global shampoo import peaked of $13B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Shampoo Imports By Country

The U.S. (238K tonnes), the UK (197K tonnes), Germany (141K tonnes), Spain (105K tonnes), Belgium (101K tonnes), Canada (99K tonnes), France (95K tonnes), Russia (91K tonnes), Italy (83K tonnes), Poland (80K tonnes), the Netherlands (76K tonnes), and Czech Republic (75K tonnes) represented roughly 47% of total imports of shampoo in 2016.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of shampoo imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Czech Republic (+12.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest shampoo markets worldwide were the U.S. ($1.2B), the UK ($695M) and Germany ($580M), with a combined 20% share of global imports. These countries were followed by Canada, France, Russia, the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium, Poland, Italy and Czech Republic, which together accounted for a further 24%.

Czech Republic (+8.9% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the shampoo imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Shampoo Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for shampoo amounted to $4,172 per tonne, descending by -3.6% against the previous year. Overall, shampoo import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013, when import increased by 7988% y-o-y. In that year, average shampoo import price reached its maximum level of $4,691 per tonne. From 2014 to 2016, growth of average shampoo import price stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was Canada ($5,265 per tonne), while Czech Republic ($2,763 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of shampoo import prices was attained by the Netherlands (+2.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
