Rubber Or Plastic Footwear Imports By Country

In 2016, China (2.6M tonnes) was the largest importer for rubber or plastic footwear, comprising 50% of total imports. It was distantly followed by the U.S. (302K tonnes), generating 6% share of total rubber or plastic footwear imports. The UK (172K tonnes), Viet Nam (151K tonnes), Germany (116K tonnes), Japan (108K tonnes), France (90K tonnes), and Russia (82K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. At the same time, the UK (+6.1%), Germany (+1.3%), France (+1.2%), and Viet Nam (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the UK emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +6.1% from 2007;2016. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, the U.S. (;2.3%), and Japan (;3.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest importers remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the U.S. ($6.3B) constitutes the largest market for imported rubber or plastic footwear worldwide, making up 20% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($2.3B), with the share of 7% of global imports. It was followed by Japan, with the share of 5%.

In the U.S., rubber or plastic footwear imports stood at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the period from 2007;2016. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates: Germany (+7.6% per year) and Japan (+0.2% per year).

The average rubber or plastic footwear import price stood at $6,127 per tonne in 2016, descending by ;3.1% against the previous year. From 2007 to 2016, the share of the U.S., China, Hong Kong SAR, Italy, and the UK increased by 5%, 2%, 2%, and 2% percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
