Which Country Imports the Most Rapeseed Oil in the World?

Global rapeseed oil imports amounted to 6,567 thousand tonnes in 2015, leveling off at the previous year level.Overall, the global rapeseed oil imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +20% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global rapeseed oil imports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global rapeseed oil imports amounted to $5,475 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global rapeseed oil imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +4.5%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Rapeseed Oil Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the rapeseed oil imports in 2015 were the United States (1,629 thousand tonnes), China (838 thousand tonnes), the Netherlands (564 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 46% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of rapeseed oil imports among the main importing countries was attained by Czechia (+55.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of rapeseed oil in absolute volumes was the United States (1,435 million USD), making up 26% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China (635 million USD), with a share of 12% of global imports. Moreover, rapeseed oil imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, China (635 million USD), twofold. It was followed by the Netherlands with a share of 9%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of rapeseed oil imports in the United States was at +10.2%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: China (+13.7% per year) and the Netherlands (+6.5% per year).
