Polycarbonate Imports By Country

The imports of the five major importers of polycarbonate, namely China, the U.S., South Korea, Germany, and the Netherlands, represented more than third of total import. Belgium (1.4M tonnes), Japan (1.3M tonnes), Thailand (1.3M tonnes), India (1.2M tonnes), Italy (1.2M tonnes), Spain (951K tonnes), and France (931K tonnes) took the slight share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of polycarbonate imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by India (+14.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($7.6B) constitutes the largest market for imported polycarbonate worldwide, making up 15% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($3.4B), with the share of 7% of global imports. It was followed by the U.S., with the share of 5%.

In China, polycarbonate imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2007;2016. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (;0.2% per year) and the U.S. (+0.3% per year).

The average polycarbonate import price stood at $1,343 per tonne in 2016, shrinking by ;8.3% against the previous year. In general, polycarbonate import price continues to indicate a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, an increase of 18% year;to;year. In that year, average polycarbonate import price attained its maximum level of $1,845 per tonne. From 2012 to 2016, growth of average polycarbonate import price failed to regain its strength.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was China ($2,131 per tonne), while South Korea ($389 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of polycarbonate import prices was attained by South Korea (+1.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
