Which Country Imports the Most Perfumes and Toilet Waters in the World?

IndexBox has just published a new report "World: Peat ; Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2025". Here is a summary of the report's key findings.

In 2016, the global peat imports amounted to 12M tonnes, declining by ;2.4% against the previous year level. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013, when import increased by 12% year;to;year. In that year, global peat imports attained its maximum volume of 12M tonnes. From 2014 to 2016, growth of global peat imports stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, peat imports stood at $1.3B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed over the period under review. Over the period under review, global peat imports reached its maximum level of $1.3B in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2016.

Peat Imports By Country

In 2016, Germany (2.4M tonnes), and the Netherlands (2.2M tonnes) represented the major importers of peat in the globe, together achieving 39% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Ireland (1M tonnes), the U.S. (904K tonnes), the UK (665K tonnes), France (587K tonnes), and Belgium (554K tonnes), together creating 32% share of total peat imports. Italy (523K tonnes), Spain (204K tonnes), and Poland (178K tonnes) held the weak share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of peat imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (+4.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($341M) constitutes the largest market for imported peat worldwide, making up 27% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands ($163M), with the share of 13% of global imports. It was followed by France, with the share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of peat imports in the U.S. expanded at +3.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates: the Netherlands (+24.2% per year) and France (;2.2% per year).

Peat Import Prices By Country

The average peat import price stood at $108 per tonne in 2016, increasing by 5% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2016 it increased at an average annual rate of +1.7%.The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when it surged by 15% year;to;year. Over the period under review, average peat import price reached its maximum level in 2016, and is likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($377 per tonne), while Ireland ($3 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of peat import prices was attained by the Netherlands (+18.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The U.S. (56K tonnes), Germany (50K tonnes), the UK (44K tonnes), Spain (44K tonnes), Saudi Arabia (30K tonnes), the Netherlands (23K tonnes), Italy (22K tonnes), United Arab Emirates (20K tonnes), France (19K tonnes), Singapore (19K tonnes), Russia (15K tonnes), and Belgium (14K tonnes) represented roughly 60% of total imports of perfume in 2016.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of perfume imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Spain (+12.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($2.1B), Germany ($1.7B) and the UK ($1.1B) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together comprising 30% of global imports.Spain, the Netherlands, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Italy, France, Russia, Saudi Arabia and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 31%.

Singapore (+5.8% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of perfume imports, among the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2016, the average import price for perfume amounted to $27 per kg, coming up by 4% against the previous year. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +1.8%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when import increased by 9% y-o-y. Global perfume import peaked of $27 per kg in 2013- however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($37 per kg), while Saudi Arabia ($13 per kg) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of perfume import prices was attained by the UK (+7.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
