Which Country Imports the Most Papayas in the World?

Global papaya imports amounted to 332 thousand tonnes in 2015, coming up by +13.8% against the previous year level. Overall, the global papaya imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015, when the output figure increased by +14% from the previous year level. In that year, the global papaya imports reached its maximum volume, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global papaya imports amounted to $316 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global papaya imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +4.1%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Papaya Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the papaya imports in absolute volumes was the United States (186 thousand tonnes), accounting for 56% of global imports. It was followed by Singapore (26 thousand tonnes), with a share of 8% of global imports. Moreover, papaya imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Singapore (26 thousand tonnes), sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by El Salvador with a share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of papaya imports in the United States stood at +3.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Singapore (+3.7% per year) and El Salvador (+15.4% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of papaya in absolute volumes was the United States (129 million USD), making up 41% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany (29 million USD), with a share of 9% of global imports. Moreover, papaya imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Germany (29 million USD), fourfold. It was followed by Canada with a share of 7%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of papaya imports in the United States was at +5.2%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Germany (+7.1% per year) and Canada (+1.8% per year).
