Which Country Imports the Most Motorcycles and Scooters in the World?

IndexBox has just published a new report "World: Monitors (Visual Display Units) ; Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2025". Here is a summary of the report's key findings.

In 2016, approx. 2.5M tonnes of monitor were imported worldwide; flattening at the previous year level. In general, monitor imports continue to indicate a drastic downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014, when import increased by 2% y;o;y. Global monitor import peaked of 5.2M tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, monitor imports totaled $83B in 2016. Overall, monitor imports continue to indicate a pronounced curtailment. Over the period under review, global monitor imports attained its maximum level of $124B in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Monitor Imports By Country

In 2016, Slovakia (319K tonnes), Poland (272K tonnes), South Korea (197K tonnes), Hungary (178K tonnes), Czech Republic (150K tonnes), Germany (148K tonnes), the Netherlands (128K tonnes), the UK (116K tonnes), Turkey (107K tonnes), and France (90K tonnes) represented the major importers of monitor in the world, committing 67% of total import. The following importers ; Australia (59K tonnes), and Indonesia (56K tonnes) took near 5% of total imports, each.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of monitor imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (+11.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($6B), the UK ($4.3B) and the Netherlands ($3.6B) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together accounting for 17% of global imports. These countries were followed by France, Australia, South Korea, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Turkey, Hungary and Indonesia, which together accounted for a further 14%.

Slovakia (+4.8% per year) had the highest growth rate of monitor imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Monitor Import Prices By Country

The average monitor import price stood at $33 per kg in 2016, falling by ;5.9% against the previous year. Overall, it indicated a strong expansion from 2007 to 2016: the import price value increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, monitor import price decreased by ;9.4% against its level of 2011. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when import increased by 29% from the previous year level. Global monitor import peaked of $36 per kg in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was Germany ($41 per kg), while Slovakia ($3,137 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of monitor import prices was attained by Slovakia (+5.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

India (92K tonnes), the U.S. (91K tonnes), Angola (84K tonnes), Italy (64K tonnes), Germany (56K tonnes), Thailand (55K tonnes), France (49K tonnes), Indonesia (48K tonnes), and Argentina (44K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of motorcycle and scooter imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Indonesia (+27.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($2.1B), Germany ($1.4B) and France ($1.3B) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together comprising 24% of global imports.
