Which Country Imports the Most Metal Complete and Assembled Domestic Furniture in the World?

In 2016, approx. 43M tonnes of metal furniture were imported worldwide; rising by 4% against the previous year figure. In general, metal furniture imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, an increase of 5% against the previous year level. Global metal furniture import peaked in 2016, and are likely to continue its growth in the near future.

In value terms, metal furniture imports totaled $74B in 2016. Overall, metal furniture imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global metal furniture imports attained its maximum level in 2016, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Metal Furniture Imports By Country

China (8.9M tonnes), and the U.S. (6.2M tonnes) represented the main importers of metal furniture in 2016, amounting to near 21%, and 14% of total imports, respectively. Poland (2.3M tonnes) ranks second globally in metal furniture imports with a 5% share, following Germany (5%). Italy (1.8M tonnes), the UK (1.6M tonnes), France (1.3M tonnes), Viet Nam (1M tonnes), Japan (898K tonnes), Canada (886K tonnes), Indonesia (780K tonnes), and Sweden (758K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of metal furniture imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by the U.S. (+3.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($23B) constitutes the largest market for imported metal furniture worldwide, making up 31% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($5.5B), with the share of 7% of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with the share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of metal furniture imports in the U.S. expanded at +2.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates: Germany (+2.5% per year) and the UK (-2.1% per year).

Metal Furniture Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for metal furniture amounted to $1,734 per tonne, coming down by -2.7% against the previous year. Overall, metal furniture import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when import increased by 5% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average metal furniture import price attained its maximum level of $1,824 per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($3,735 per tonne), while Viet Nam ($88 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of metal furniture import prices was attained by China (+13.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
