Which Country Imports the Most Iron Sheet Piling, Shapes and Sections in the World?

In 2016, approx. 4.4M tonnes of sheet piling were imported worldwide; import ,therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year figure. Overall, sheet piling imports continue to indicate a mild increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, an increase of 16% against the previous year level. Global sheet piling import peaked of 4.5M tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, sheet piling imports amounted to $1.7B in 2016. In general, sheet piling imports continue to indicate a moderate drop. In that year, global sheet piling imports attained its maximum level of $2.6B. From 2009 to 2016, growth of global sheet piling imports failed to regain its strength.

Sheet Piling Imports By Country

In 2016, Luxembourg (804K tonnes), distantly followed by China (432K tonnes), the Netherlands (303K tonnes), Japan (282K tonnes), and Libya (214K tonnes) were the main importers of sheet piling, together committing 46% of total imports. Bahrain (190K tonnes), Germany (176K tonnes), Czech Republic (163K tonnes), Saudi Arabia (162K tonnes), South Korea (143K tonnes), China, Hong Kong SAR (114K tonnes), and the U.S. (110K tonnes) held the minor share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of sheet piling imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (+22.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($230M) constitutes the largest market for imported sheet piling worldwide, making up 13% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($112M), with the share of 6% of global imports. It was followed by the U.S., with the share of 6%.

In the Netherlands, sheet piling imports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2007-2016. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+11.9% per year) and the U.S. (-2.4% per year).

Sheet Piling Import Prices By Country

The average sheet piling import price stood at $392 per tonne in 2016, leveling off at the previous year level. In general, sheet piling import price continues to indicate a significant decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008, when it surged by 28% y-o-y. In that year, average sheet piling import price attained its maximum level of $669 per tonne. From 2009 to 2016, growth of average sheet piling import price stood at a somewhat lower level.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($1,012 per tonne), while Libya ($0 per kg) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of sheet piling import prices was attained by Japan (+29.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
