Which Country Imports the Most Household Sewing Machines in the World?

Global canned food imports amounted to 1.2M tonnes in 2016, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, an increase of 14% year;to;year. Over the period under review, global canned food imports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, canned food imports stood at $2.9B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Global canned food import peaked of $3.2B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Canned Food Imports By Country

In 2016, Mozambique (137K tonnes), followed by the U.S. (78K tonnes), Canada (72K tonnes), the UK (70K tonnes), Mexico (61K tonnes), and Germany (57K tonnes) were the key importers of canned food, together making up 40% of total imports. The following importers ; the Netherlands (53K tonnes), France (46K tonnes), Belgium (43K tonnes), Australia (34K tonnes), Sweden (30K tonnes), and China, Hong Kong SAR (27K tonnes) together made up 20% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of canned food imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Mozambique (+62.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($263M), the UK ($206M) and Mexico ($205M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together comprising 23% of global imports. These countries were followed by Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, China, Hong Kong SAR, Sweden, Australia and Mozambique, which together accounted for a further 33%.

Mozambique (+20.5% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the canned food imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Canned Food Import Prices By Country

The average canned food import price stood at $2,444 per tonne in 2016, dropping by ;2.6% against the previous year. In general, canned food import price continues to indicate a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, when import increased by 6% against the previous year level. In that year, average canned food import price attained its maximum level of $2,925 per tonne. From 2012 to 2016, growth of average canned food import price stood at a somewhat lower level.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was Mexico ($3,357 per tonne), while Mozambique ($137 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of canned food import prices was attained by China, Hong Kong SAR (+5.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In general, sewing machine imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, an increase of 17% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, global sewing machine imports reached its maximum volume of 448K tonnes in 2007- however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Sewing Machine Imports By Country

China (114K tonnes) represented the major importing country with an import of around 114K tonnes, which reached 27% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (41K tonnes), constituting 10% share of total sewing machine imports. The following importers - Germany (18K tonnes), Indonesia (17K tonnes), India (16K tonnes), Japan (16K tonnes), the Netherlands (14K tonnes), Malaysia (10K tonnes), Bangladesh (9.6K tonnes), Thailand (7.6K tonnes), China, Hong Kong SAR (7.2K tonnes), and Russia (7K tonnes) together made up 29% of total imports.

China experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. At the same time, the Netherlands (+11.4%), Nigeria (+9.9%), Indonesia (+7.4%), Germany (+6.1%), India (+5.5%), Bangladesh (+5.2%), and Malaysia (+3.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, the Netherlands emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +11.4% from 2007-2016. By contrast, Thailand (-1.5%), Japan (-3.3%), Russia (-5.6%), and China, Hong Kong SAR (-8.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2016, the share of China, Hong Kong SAR, and China increased by 2%, and 2% percentage points, while Germany (-1.7%), Indonesia (-1.9%), the Netherlands (-2.0%), and Nigeria (-5.5%) saw their share reduced. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest sewing machine markets worldwide were Germany ($323M), Bangladesh ($272M) and India ($243M), together comprising 16% of global imports.Japan, China, China, Hong Kong SAR, the Netherlands, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Russia and Thailand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Over the period under review, average sewing machine import price reached its maximum level of $12 per kg in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.
