Which Country Imports the Most Cloves in the World?

Global clove imports amounted to 44 thousand tonnes in 2015, falling by -9.6% against the previous year level. Overall, the global clove imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +73% from the previous year level. In that year, the global clove imports attained its maximum volume of 61 thousand tonnes. From 2012 to 2015, the total clove imports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global clove imports amounted to $340 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global clove imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +23.3%. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period.

Clove Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the clove imports in absolute volumes was India (18 thousand tonnes), accounting for 41% of global imports. It was followed by Singapore (5 thousand tonnes), with a share of 11% of global imports. Moreover, clove imports in India exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Singapore (5 thousand tonnes), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the United Arab Emirates with a share of 8%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of clove imports in India stood at +7.2%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Singapore (-9.2% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+1.9% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of clove in absolute volumes was India (151 million USD), making up 44% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Singapore (44 million USD), with a share of 13% of global imports. Moreover, clove imports in India exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Singapore (44 million USD), threefold. It was followed by the United Arab Emirates with a share of 7%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of clove imports in India was at +26.6%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Singapore (+3.7% per year) and the United Arab Emirates (+17.8% per year).
