In 2016, the global cadmium imports totaled 42K tonnes, increasing by 5% against the previous year level. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded over the period under review. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013, when import increased by 8% year-to-year. Global cadmium import peaked in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, cadmium imports stood at $28M in 2016. Overall, cadmium imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, global cadmium imports reached its maximum level of $127M in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Cadmium Imports By Country

In 2016, China (9.3K tonnes), distantly followed by India (5.4K tonnes), Australia (3.1K tonnes), Belgium (2.9K tonnes), Mexico (2.7K tonnes), Kazakhstan (2.2K tonnes), Sweden (2.1K tonnes), and South Korea (1.9K tonnes) represented the largest importers of cadmium, together achieving 71% of total imports. Canada (1.7K tonnes), Russia (1.4K tonnes), the Netherlands (1.3K tonnes), and Barbados (1.2K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of cadmium imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by India (+28.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest cadmium markets worldwide were China ($11M), India ($7M) and Belgium ($3.2M), together comprising 77% of global imports. These countries were followed by Sweden, South Korea, Russia, Mexico, Canada, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Australia and Barbados, which together accounted for a further 10%.

Russia (+77.4% per year) had the highest rates of growth with regard to the cadmium imports, among the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cadmium Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for cadmium amounted to $664 per tonne, dropping by -17.5% against the previous year. In general, cadmium import price continues to indicate a abrupt deduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when import price increased by 18% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, average cadmium import price attained its maximum level of $3,653 per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was India ($1,291 per tonne), while Barbados ($0 per kg) was among the lowest.
