The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. Global bearing import peaked of $36B in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Bearing Imports By Country

China (455K tonnes), Japan (359K tonnes), Germany (348K tonnes), and the U.S. (270K tonnes) represented roughly 43% of total imports of bearing in 2016. It was distantly followed by France (160K tonnes), creating 5% share of total bearing imports. The following importers ; Mexico (140K tonnes), South Korea (105K tonnes), Italy (103K tonnes), Romania (83K tonnes), Singapore (76K tonnes), Slovakia (73K tonnes), and India (71K tonnes) together made up 19% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of bearing imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by India (+8.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest bearing markets worldwide were Germany ($3.8B), China ($3.2B) and the U.S. ($2.7B), together accounting for 33% of global imports. These countries were followed by France, Mexico, Italy, South Korea, Singapore, India, Japan, Slovakia and Romania, which together accounted for a further 28%.

Mexico (+7.8% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of bearing imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Bearing Import Prices By Country

The average bearing import price stood at $8,702 per tonne in 2016, coming down by ;4.3% against the previous year. In general, bearing import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, when import increased by 16% year;to;year. Global bearing import peaked of $10 per kg in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was India ($13 per kg), while Japan ($1,746 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of bearing import prices was attained by China (+3.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The countries with the highest levels of ballast for discharge lamp imports in 2016 were the Netherlands (302K tonnes), Spain (298K tonnes), Italy (275K tonnes), Germany (244K tonnes), South Korea (241K tonnes), China, Hong Kong SAR (233K tonnes), the Philippines (188K tonnes), France (157K tonnes), Turkey (131K tonnes), Japan (114K tonnes), Hungary (111K tonnes), and the UK (107K tonnes), together reaching 57% of total import.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of ballast for discharge lamp imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by the Netherlands (+18.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Over the period under review, average ballast for discharge lamp import price reached its maximum level of $24 per kg in 2013- however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.
