Which Country Imports the Most Acyclic Hydrocarbons in the World?

IndexBox has just published a new report "World: Acyclic Hydrocarbons - Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2025". Here is a summary of the report's key findings.

In 2016, the global imports of acyclic hydrocarbon amounted to 21M tonnes, declining by -8.9% against the previous year level. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% from 2007 to 2016- the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded over the period under review. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015, when it surged by 7% y-o-y. In that year, global acyclic hydrocarbon imports reached its maximum volume of 23M tonnes, falling back in the following year.

In value terms, acyclic hydrocarbon imports stood at $19B in 2016. In general, acyclic hydrocarbon imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global acyclic hydrocarbon imports reached its maximum level of $30B in 2011- however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Acyclic Hydrocarbon Imports By Country

In 2016, China (5M tonnes), distantly followed by Belgium (3.2M tonnes), Germany (1.8M tonnes), Canada (1.5M tonnes), the Netherlands (1.1M tonnes), and France (1.1M tonnes) were the largest importers of acyclic hydrocarbon, together mixed up 64% of total imports. South Korea (920K tonnes), Indonesia (898K tonnes), Sweden (892K tonnes), Finland (570K tonnes), Japan (403K tonnes), and Poland (382K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of acyclic hydrocarbon imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Sweden (+28.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest acyclic hydrocarbon markets worldwide were China ($4.4B), Belgium ($2.6B) and Germany ($1.4B), together comprising 45% of global imports.South Korea, Indonesia, France, the Netherlands, Canada, Sweden, Japan, Poland and Finland lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 27%.

Sweden (+14.1% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of acyclic hydrocarbon imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Acyclic Hydrocarbon Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for acyclic hydrocarbon amounted to $886 per tonne, import ,therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous year level. In general, acyclic hydrocarbon import price continues to indicate a temperate setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when import price increased by 40% y-o-y. Global acyclic hydrocarbon import peaked of $1,531 per tonne in 2011- however, from 2012 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was South Korea ($1,012 per tonne), while Canada ($317 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of acyclic hydrocarbon import prices was attained by South Korea (-1.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
