Global asparagus imports amounted to 347 thousand tonnes in 2015, falling by -10.2% against the previous year level. Overall, the global asparagus imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +24% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global asparagus imports attained its maximum volume of 386 thousand tonnes in 2014, falling back in the following year.

In value terms, global asparagus imports amounted to $1,364 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global asparagus imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +5.0%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Asparagus Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the asparagus imports in absolute volumes was the United States (196 thousand tonnes), accounting for 56% of global imports. It was followed by Germany (24 thousand tonnes), with a share of 7% of global imports. Moreover, asparagus imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Germany (24 thousand tonnes), eightfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Canada with a share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of asparagus imports in the United States stood at +5.9%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Germany (+0.1% per year) and Canada (+0.2% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of asparagus in absolute volumes was the United States (661 million USD), making up 48% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany (93 million USD), with a share of 7% of global imports. Moreover, asparagus imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Germany (93 million USD), sevenfold. It was followed by Canada with a share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of asparagus imports in the United States was at +7.9%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Germany (-0.5% per year) and Canada (+3.2% per year).
