Global veneer sheet exports stood at 1.5M tonnes in 2016, surging by 8% against the previous year figure. Overall, veneer sheet exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, when it surged by 30% year-to-year. In that year, global veneer sheet exports attained its maximum volume of 1.7M tonnes. From 2012 to 2016, growth of global veneer sheet exports failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, veneer sheet exports totaled $2.4B in 2016. In general, veneer sheet exports continue to indicate a deep contraction. Global veneer sheet export peaked of $3.6B in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Veneer Sheet Exports By Country

In 2016, Russia (321K tonnes), distantly followed by China (185K tonnes), Australia (81K tonnes), Lithuania (74K tonnes), and France (69K tonnes) represented the major exporters of veneer sheet, together achieving 48% of total exports. New Zealand (67K tonnes), Estonia (61K tonnes), the Netherlands (55K tonnes), Romania (54K tonnes), Myanmar (47K tonnes), Brazil (42K tonnes), and Germany (37K tonnes) held the slight share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of veneer sheet exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Myanmar (nan% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($280M), Germany ($160M) and Russia ($111M) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together comprising 23% of global exports.

Russia (+20.6% per year) had the highest rates of growth with regard to the veneer sheet exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Veneer Sheet Export Prices By Country

The average veneer sheet export price stood at $1,591 per tonne in 2016, going down by -8.9% against the previous year. Overall, veneer sheet export price continues to indicate a significant downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012, when export price increased by 29% year-to-year. Global veneer sheet export peaked of $2,210 per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Germany ($4,282 per tonne), while the Netherlands ($134 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of veneer sheet export prices was attained by Myanmar (nan% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
