In 2016, the amount of technical textiles exported worldwide totaled 2.5K tonnes, reducing by -32.0% against the previous year level. Overall, technical textiles exports continue to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when exports increased by 28% y-o-y. In that year, global technical textiles exports reached its maximum volume of 6.3K tonnes. From 2011 to 2016, growth of global technical textiles exports stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, technical textiles exports amounted to $40M in 2016. In general, technical textiles exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In that year, global technical textiles exports reached its maximum level of $49M. From 2014 to 2016, growth of global technical textiles exports failed to regain its strength.

Technical Textiles Exports By Country

Germany (561 tonnes), China (460 tonnes), and the U.S. (352 tonnes) represented roughly 54% of total exports of technical textiles in 2016. India (227 tonnes) ranks second globally in technical textiles exports with a 9% share, following Brazil (5%), and South Africa (5%). South Korea (91 tonnes), Honduras (86 tonnes), Spain (63 tonnes), Japan (41 tonnes), and Pakistan (40 tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of technical textiles exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Brazil (+63.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($14M) remains the largest technical textiles supplier in the world, making up 37% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the U.S. ($5.5M), with the share of 14% of global exports. It was followed by India, with the share of 12%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of technical textiles exports in Germany declined by -0.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates: the U.S. (+0.1% per year) and India (+36.6% per year).

Technical Textiles Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for technical textiles amounted to $16 per kg, increasing by 37% against the previous year. Overall, it indicated a prominent increase from 2007 to 2016: the export price value increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016, when export increased by 37% against the previous year level. In that year, average technical textiles export price attained its maximum level, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Germany ($26 per kg), while South Africa ($1,774 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of technical textiles export prices was attained by India (+20.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
