Which Country Exports the Most Sunflower Seeds in the World?

Global sunflower seed exports amounted to 4,257 thousand tonnes in 2015, descending by -8.7% against the previous year level. Overall, the global sunflower seed exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +50% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global sunflower seed exports attained its maximum volume of 5,313 thousand tonnes in 2013. From 2014 to 2015, the total sunflower seed exports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $3,069 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +7.3%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Sunflower Seed Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the sunflower seed exports in 2015 were Romania (1,099 thousand tonnes), Bulgaria (715 thousand tonnes), France (403 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 52% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of sunflower seed exports among the main exporting countries was attained by Romania (+14.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Romania (502 million USD), China (405 million USD) and Bulgaria (402 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2015, together accounting for 43% of total exports.

Rep. of Moldova (+21.8% per year) had the highest growth rates of sunflower seed exports among the main exporting countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
