Which Country Exports the Most Steel Springs and Leaves in the World?

In 2016, approx. 1.5M tonnes of steel spring were exported worldwide; standing approx. at the previous year level. Overall, steel spring exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when export increased by 25% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, global steel spring exports reached its maximum volume of 1.6M tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, steel spring exports totaled $6.3B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, global steel spring exports attained its maximum level of $6.9B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Steel Spring Exports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of steel spring exports in 2016 were Mexico (268K tonnes), Germany (230K tonnes), and China (190K tonnes), together finishing at 45% of total export. The U.S. (107K tonnes) ranks second globally in steel spring exports with a 7% share, following Turkey (5%). Czech Republic (61K tonnes), Spain (50K tonnes), Canada (42K tonnes), Italy (41K tonnes), France (37K tonnes), Poland (36K tonnes), and Japan (31K tonnes) took the weak share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of steel spring exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Turkey (+7.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($1.4B) remains the largest steel spring supplier in the world, making up 22% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the U.S. ($682M), with the share of 11% of global exports. It was followed by Mexico, with the share of 10%.

In Germany, steel spring exports stood at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2007-2016. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates: the U.S. (+5.0% per year) and Mexico (+3.0% per year).

Steel Spring Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for steel spring amounted to $4,067 per tonne, remaining constant against the previous year level. Over the period from 2007 to 2016 it increased at an average annual rate of +1.5%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, when export increased by 18% against the previous year level. Global steel spring export peaked of $4,509 per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($13 per kg), while Turkey ($1,424 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of steel spring export prices was attained by the U.S. (+9.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
