Which Country Exports the Most Spinach in the World?

Global spinach exports amounted to 147 thousand tonnes in 2015, declining by -4.4% against the previous year level. Overall, the global spinach exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +20% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global spinach exports attained its maximum volume of 157 thousand tonnes in 2013. From 2014 to 2015, the total spinach exports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $268 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +12.4%. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period.

Spinach Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the spinach exports in 2015 were the United States (37 thousand tonnes), Spain (26 thousand tonnes), the Netherlands (23 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 59% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of spinach exports among the main exporting countries was attained by Spain (+19.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of exports of spinach in absolute volumes was the United States (123 million USD), making up 46% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Spain (45 million USD), with a share of 17% of global exports. Moreover, spinach exports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Spain (45 million USD), threefold. It was followed by Italy with a share of 14%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of spinach exports in the United States was at +14.7%. The remaining exporting countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Spain (+15.0% per year) and Italy (+15.8% per year).
