Which Country Exports the Most Shampoos in the World?

In 2016, approx. 3.2M tonnes of shampoo were exported worldwide; rising by 3% against the previous year level. Overall, it indicated a tangible increase from 2007 to 2016: the total exports volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, shampoo exports increased by +3.7% against its level of 2014. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013, when it surged by 49% against the previous year level. In that year, global shampoo exports reached its maximum volume of 5.1M tonnes. From 2014 to 2016, growth of global shampoo exports stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, shampoo exports stood at $13B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. Over the period under review, global shampoo exports attained its maximum level of $14B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Shampoo Exports By Country

In 2016, France (292K tonnes), Germany (290K tonnes), the U.S. (257K tonnes), Italy (227K tonnes), Mexico (219K tonnes), Thailand (202K tonnes), Poland (154K tonnes), Belgium (125K tonnes), Spain (115K tonnes), the UK (100K tonnes), China (98K tonnes), and Romania (84K tonnes) represented the key exporters of shampoo in the world, committing 67% of total export.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of shampoo exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Romania (+20.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest shampoo markets worldwide were Germany ($1.3B), the U.S. ($1.3B) and Italy ($890M), together accounting for 28% of global exports. These countries were followed by France, Mexico, Thailand, Belgium, the UK, Spain, Poland, China and Romania, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Romania (+17.6% per year) had the highest growth rate of shampoo exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Shampoo Export Prices By Country

The average shampoo export price stood at $3,931 per tonne in 2016, going down by -2.5% against the previous year. Overall, shampoo export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014, when it surged by 61% from the previous year level. In that year, average shampoo export price reached its maximum level of $4,459 per tonne. From 2015 to 2016, growth of average shampoo export price stood at a somewhat lower level.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was the UK ($5,400 per tonne), while Poland ($2,566 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of shampoo export prices was attained by Thailand (+4.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
