The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012, an increase of 36% from the previous year level. Global railway coach export peaked of 125K tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Railway Coach Exports By Country

China (22K tonnes), and Germany (21K tonnes) represented the key exporters of railway coach in 2016, recording near 20%, and 19% of total exports, respectively. Spain (10K tonnes) ranks second globally in railway coach exports with a 9% share, following South Korea (7%), Japan (7%), Switzerland (7%), and France (5%). The following exporters - Poland (3.7K tonnes), Italy (3.7K tonnes), Greece (3K tonnes), the U.S. (2.9K tonnes), and Czech Republic (2.9K tonnes) held near 15% of total exports, each.

In 2016, the average export price for railway coach amounted to $42 per kg, growing by 15% against the previous year. In general, railway coach export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009, when export increased by 15% y-o-y. Global railway coach export peaked of $48 per kg in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($59 per kg), while Greece ($6 per tonne) was among the lowest.
