Which Country Exports the Most Seats in the World?

Global seat exports totaled 11M tonnes in 2016, going up by 18% against the previous year figure. Overall, it indicated a significant expansion from 2007 to 2016: the total exports volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, seat exports increased by +38.4% against its level of 2014. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when export increased by 62% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, global seat exports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, seat exports amounted to $71B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a noticeable expansion from 2007 to 2016: the total exports value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, seat exports decreased by -2.2% against its level of 2014. Over the period under review, global seat exports reached its maximum level of $73B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Seat Exports By Country

China (4.1M tonnes) represented the main exporting country with an export of around 4.1M tonnes, which reached 38% of total exports. Poland (1.2M tonnes) ranks second globally in seat exports with a 11% share, following Mexico (8%), and the U.S. (6%). The following exporters - Germany (398K tonnes), Czech Republic (350K tonnes), Romania (341K tonnes), Italy (299K tonnes), Canada (271K tonnes), Viet Nam (188K tonnes), and Turkey (175K tonnes) together made up 18% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, average annual rates of growth with regard to seat exports from China stood at +2.3%. At the same time, Romania (+14.4%), the U.S. (+14.1%), Czech Republic (+11.0%), Viet Nam (+8.0%), Mexico (+6.1%), Turkey (+4.4%), Poland (+4.0%), Germany (+1.8%), and Canada (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Romania emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +14.4% from 2007-2016. By contrast, Italy (-4.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Czech Republic (-1.9%), Romania (-2.2%), Poland (-3.2%), Mexico (-3.4%), the U.S. (-4.3%), and China (-7.1%) significantly weakened its position in terms of the global exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($22B) remains the largest seat supplier in the world, making up 31% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Mexico ($6.5B), with the share of 9% of global exports. It was followed by Poland, with the share of 8%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual growth rate of value of seat exports in China stood at +8.7%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Mexico (+6.6% per year) and Poland (+3.4% per year).

Seat Export Prices By Country

The average seat export price stood at $6,478 per tonne in 2016, coming down by -14.0% against the previous year. Overall, seat export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014, when export increased by 40% year-to-year. In that year, average seat export price reached its maximum level of $9,167 per tonne. From 2015 to 2016, growth of average seat export price failed to regain its strength.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Italy ($11 per kg), while Turkey ($4,501 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of seat export prices was attained by China (+6.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
