Which Country Exports the Most Printed Circuits in the World?

Global printed circuit exports totaled 351K tonnes in 2016, falling by -5.8% against the previous year level. Overall, printed circuit exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when exports increased by 54% from the previous year level. In that year, global printed circuit exports attained its maximum volume of 565K tonnes. From 2011 to 2016, growth of global printed circuit exports failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, printed circuit exports amounted to $39B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Global printed circuit export peaked of $42B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Printed Circuit Exports By Country

In 2016, China, Hong Kong SAR (176K tonnes) represented the key exporter for printed circuit, achieving 50% of total exports. Malaysia (41K tonnes) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by Thailand (28K tonnes), Germany (23K tonnes), and South Korea (21K tonnes). All these countries together took near 32% share of total exports. The following exporters - Hungary (7.3K tonnes), and Japan (6.6K tonnes) took approx. 4% of total exports, each.

Exports from China, Hong Kong SAR increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Malaysia (+17.8%), Germany (+12.8%), Hungary (+8.7%), Thailand (+5.5%), and South Korea (+2.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Malaysia emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +17.8% from 2007-2016. By contrast, Japan (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Japan (2%) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Thailand, Germany, Malaysia, and China, Hong Kong SAR saw its share reduced by -3.0%, -4.4%, -9.1%, and -9.3% from 2007 to 2016, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China, Hong Kong SAR ($9.4B) remains the largest printed circuit supplier in the world, making up 24% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by South Korea ($4.4B), with the share of 11% of global exports. It was followed by Japan, with the share of 6%.

In China, Hong Kong SAR, printed circuit exports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2007-2016. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates: South Korea (+9.5% per year) and Japan (-3.9% per year).

Printed Circuit Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for printed circuit amounted to $112 per kg, flattening at the previous year level. Overall, it indicated a moderate increase from 2007 to 2016: the export price value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, printed circuit export price decreased by -12.1% against its level of 2014. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014, when it surged by 72% from the previous year level. In that year, average printed circuit export price reached its maximum level of $127 per kg. From 2015 to 2016, growth of average printed circuit export price failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($347 per kg), while Malaysia ($28 per kg) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of printed circuit export prices was attained by South Korea (+7.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
