Global explosives exports totaled 165K tonnes in 2016, waning by -26.0% against the previous year figure. In general, explosives exports continue to indicate a measured slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when it surged by 18% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global explosives exports reached its maximum volume of 290K tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

In value terms, explosives exports amounted to $635M in 2016. In general, explosives exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global explosives exports attained its maximum level of $865M in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Explosives Exports By Country

In 2016, Russia (29K tonnes), and South Africa (20K tonnes) represented the largest exporters of explosives in the globe, together reaching approx. 30% of total exports. Costa Rica (12K tonnes) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Poland (11K tonnes), Spain (11K tonnes), and India (9.1K tonnes). All these countries together took approx. 26% share of total exports. The following exporters - Turkey (7.2K tonnes), China (6.8K tonnes), Italy (6.5K tonnes), Peru (5.2K tonnes), Canada (4.3K tonnes), and the Philippines (3.9K tonnes) together made up 21% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of explosives exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Spain (nan% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest explosives markets worldwide were Russia ($49M), South Africa ($40M) and Poland ($20M), together accounting for 17% of global exports.India, Spain, the Philippines, Costa Rica, China, Canada, Peru, Turkey and Italy lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 17%.

Italy (+28.5% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of explosives exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Explosives Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for explosives amounted to $3,842 per tonne, rising by 22% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2016 it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016, when export increased by 22% against the previous year level. In that year, average explosives export price attained its maximum level, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was the Philippines ($3,472 per tonne), while Italy ($972 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of explosives export prices was attained by South Africa (+7.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
