Which Country Exports the Most Polyamides in the World?

In 2016, approx. 4.3M tonnes of polyamide were exported worldwide; jumping by 2% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when exports increased by 34% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global polyamide exports reached its maximum volume in 2016, and are likely to continue its growth in the near future.

In value terms, polyamide exports amounted to $12B in 2016. In general, polyamide exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global polyamide export peaked of $15B in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Polyamide Exports By Country

Germany (803K tonnes), and the U.S. (728K tonnes) represented roughly 36% of total exports of polyamide in 2016. It was distantly followed by Belgium (393K tonnes), the Netherlands (330K tonnes), and Italy (266K tonnes), together mixed up 23% share of total polyamide exports. The following exporters - China (176K tonnes), South Korea (156K tonnes), Poland (150K tonnes), France (139K tonnes), Spain (132K tonnes), Japan (111K tonnes), and Switzerland (111K tonnes) together made up 23% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of polyamide exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Poland (+14.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($2.3B), the U.S. ($2.2B) and Belgium ($1B) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, with a combined 46% share of global exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Switzerland, China, Italy, France, Japan, South Korea, Poland and Spain, which together accounted for a further 40%.

Poland (+10.4% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the polyamide exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Polyamide Export Prices By Country

The average polyamide export price stood at $2,826 per tonne in 2016, waning by -7.7% against the previous year. In general, polyamide export price continues to indicate a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when export increased by 17% year-to-year. In that year, average polyamide export price reached its maximum level of $3,898 per tonne. From 2012 to 2016, growth of average polyamide export price stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Switzerland ($6,000 per tonne), while Spain ($1,796 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of polyamide export prices was attained by Japan (+2.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
