Which Country Exports the Most Plastic Tubes and Pipes in the World?

In 2016, the global plastic tube and pipe imports stood at 8M tonnes, surging by 4% against the previous year figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the period from 2007 to 2016- the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015, when import increased by 9% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global plastic tube and pipe imports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plastic tube and pipe imports stood at $21B in 2016. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% from 2007 to 2016- the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Global plastic tube and pipe import peaked of $23B in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Plastic Tube And Pipe Imports By Country

In 2016, Mozambique (1.4M tonnes), distantly followed by China (585K tonnes), the U.S. (523K tonnes), Germany (518K tonnes), and Turkey (364K tonnes) were the key importers of plastic tube and pipe, together generating 42% of total imports. Italy (340K tonnes), Mexico (311K tonnes), France (250K tonnes), Spain (176K tonnes), Poland (153K tonnes), and Canada (145K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

Mozambique was also the fastest growing in terms of the plastic tube and pipe imports, with a CAGR of +42.7% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Spain (+3.1%), Canada (+2.3%), the U.S. (+1.8%), Turkey (+1.5%), and Poland (+1.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. China, France, Germany, and Italy experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Mexico (-1.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Mozambique (-16.3%) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest plastic tube and pipe markets worldwide were the U.S. ($1.8B), Germany ($1.6B) and Mexico ($1.3B), together comprising 22% of global imports.France, China, Canada, Poland, Italy, Spain, Turkey and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.

China (+7.8% per year) had the highest rates of growth with regard to the plastic tube and pipe imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plastic Tube And Pipe Import Prices By Country

The average plastic tube and pipe import price stood at $2,667 per tonne in 2016, descending by -4.2% against the previous year. Overall, plastic tube and pipe import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when import increased by 15% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average plastic tube and pipe import price attained its maximum level of $3,298 per tonne in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was Mexico ($4,305 per tonne), while Mozambique ($13 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of plastic tube and pipe import prices was attained by China (+7.1% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
