Which Country Exports the Most Plastic Tubes and Pipes in the World?

In 2016, approx. 4.1M tonnes of plastic tube and pipe were exported worldwide; approximately equating the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when exports increased by 9% y-o-y. Global plastic tube and pipe export peaked of 4.3M tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, plastic tube and pipe exports totaled $22B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, global plastic tube and pipe exports attained its maximum level of $24B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Plastic Tube And Pipe Exports By Country

China (585K tonnes), Germany (485K tonnes), the U.S. (353K tonnes), and Italy (340K tonnes) represented roughly 42% of total exports of plastic tube and pipe in 2016. It was distantly followed by Turkey (215K tonnes), achieving 5% share of total plastic tube and pipe exports. Poland (139K tonnes), Spain (137K tonnes), the Netherlands (111K tonnes), the UK (98K tonnes), Czech Republic (95K tonnes), Canada (80K tonnes), and France (75K tonnes) held the weak share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of plastic tube and pipe exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by China (+7.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plastic tube and pipe markets worldwide were Germany ($3.7B), the U.S. ($2.6B) and China ($2.2B), together accounting for 39% of global exports.

China (+12.1% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of plastic tube and pipe exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plastic Tube And Pipe Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for plastic tube and pipe amounted to $5,241 per tonne, remaining stable against the previous year level. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when export increased by 10% year-to-year. In that year, average plastic tube and pipe export price attained its maximum level of $5,505 per tonne. From 2012 to 2016, growth of average plastic tube and pipe export price stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Czech Republic ($8,940 per tonne), while Turkey ($2,572 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of plastic tube and pipe export prices was attained by the Netherlands (+6.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
