Which Country Exports the Most Plaster Articles in the World?

IndexBox has just published a new report "World: Articles Of Plaster Or Of Compositions Based On Plaster - Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2025". Here is a summary of the report's key findings.

In 2016, the amount of plaster imported worldwide totaled 14M tonnes, ascending by 2% against the previous year level. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% from 2007 to 2016- the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, when import increased by 6% against the previous year level. Global plaster import peaked in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, plaster imports totaled $2B in 2016. In general, plaster imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, global plaster imports attained its maximum level of $2.2B in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Plaster Imports By Country

In 2016, Germany (1.8M tonnes), followed by China (806K tonnes), Poland (636K tonnes), and Mexico (634K tonnes) represented the key importers of plaster, together mixed up 28% of total imports. Thailand (568K tonnes), Spain (525K tonnes), France (506K tonnes), Bulgaria (359K tonnes), Russia (327K tonnes), Italy (309K tonnes), Switzerland (305K tonnes), and Austria (297K tonnes) held the minor share of total imports.

Germany experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. At the same time, Bulgaria (+6.0%), Russia (+5.3%), Switzerland (+3.8%), and Italy (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Bulgaria emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +6.0% from 2007-2016. Thailand, China, Mexico, Poland, Spain, and Austria experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, France (-3.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The shares of the largest importers remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest plaster markets worldwide were France ($128M), Switzerland ($105M) and Germany ($49M), together comprising 14% of global imports. These countries were followed by Italy, Austria, Spain, Poland, China, Russia, Bulgaria, Mexico and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 6%.

China (+13.0% per year) had the highest growth rate of plaster imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plaster Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for plaster amounted to $141 per tonne, waning by -2.1% against the previous year. Overall, plaster import price continues to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, when import increased by 7% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, average plaster import price reached its maximum level of $163 per tonne in 2008- however, from 2009 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was Switzerland ($343 per tonne), while Thailand ($6 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of plaster import prices was attained by Thailand (+13.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
