In 2016, approx. 7.1M tonnes of plaster were exported worldwide; rising by 9% against the previous year figure. Overall, plaster exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016, when exports increased by 9% y-o-y. In that year, global plaster exports reached its maximum volume, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, plaster exports stood at $1.8B in 2016. In general, plaster exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Global plaster export peaked of $2B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Plaster Exports By Country

China (806K tonnes), Germany (777K tonnes), Mexico (634K tonnes), Thailand (568K tonnes), and Spain (525K tonnes) represented roughly 47% of total exports of plaster in 2016. The following exporters - Italy (241K tonnes), Bulgaria (235K tonnes), Saudi Arabia (235K tonnes), Russia (228K tonnes), Poland (225K tonnes), Turkey (204K tonnes), and Iran (203K tonnes) took near 22% of total exports, each.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of plaster exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Saudi Arabia (+24.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest plaster markets worldwide were China ($242M), Germany ($238M) and Mexico ($124M), with a combined 33% share of global exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Thailand, Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Russia and Iran, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Saudi Arabia (+22.9% per year) had the highest growth rate of plaster exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Plaster Export Prices By Country

The average plaster export price stood at $259 per tonne in 2016, reducing by -11.0% against the previous year. In general, plaster export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008, when export increased by 10% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average plaster export price reached its maximum level of $323 per tonne in 2011; however, from 2012 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was Germany ($306 per tonne), while Iran ($2 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of plaster export prices was attained by Germany (+3.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
