Which Country Exports the Most Pineapples in the World?

Global pineapple exports amounted to 3,036 thousand tonnes in 2015, reducing by -15.2% against the previous year level. Overall, the global pineapple exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +20% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global pineapple exports attained its maximum volume of 3,580 thousand tonnes in 2014, falling back in the following year.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $1,597 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +1.4%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Pineapple Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the pineapple exports in absolute volumes was Costa Rica (1,902 thousand tonnes), accounting for 63% of global exports. It was followed by the Philippines (268 thousand tonnes), with a share of 9% of global exports. Moreover, pineapple exports in Costa Rica exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, the Philippines, sevenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the Netherlands with a share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of pineapple exports in Costa Rica stood at +4.3%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: the Philippines (-0.4% per year) and the Netherlands (+1.8% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of exports of pineapple in absolute volumes was Costa Rica (822 million USD), making up 51% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands (169 million USD), with a share of 11% of global exports. Moreover, pineapple exports in Costa Rica exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, the Netherlands (169 million USD), fivefold. It was followed by Belgium with a share of 7%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of pineapple exports in Costa Rica was at +6.8%. The remaining exporting countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: the Netherlands (+0.2% per year) and Belgium (-10.6% per year).
