Which Country Exports the Most Nonwoven Textiles in the World?

In 2016, the amount of nonwoven textile exported worldwide totaled 3.4M tonnes, ascending by 6% against the previous year figure. Overall, it indicated a remarkable growth from 2007 to 2016: the total exports volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, nonwoven textile exports increased by +62.4% against its level of 2007. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when it surged by 18% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global nonwoven textile exports reached its maximum volume in 2016, and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.

In value terms, nonwoven textile exports totaled $14B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Over the period under review, global nonwoven textile exports attained its maximum level of $15B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Nonwoven Textile Exports By Country

In 2016, China (832K tonnes), distantly followed by Germany (367K tonnes), the U.S. (311K tonnes), Italy (269K tonnes), and Turkey (164K tonnes) represented the key exporters of nonwoven textile, together achieving 57% of total exports. Czech Republic (129K tonnes), France (121K tonnes), Spain (94K tonnes), Israel (74K tonnes), Thailand (71K tonnes), Malaysia (65K tonnes), and Belgium (60K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +15.8% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Turkey (+20.3%), Thailand (+10.5%), Malaysia (+7.0%), Czech Republic (+6.9%), Spain (+4.1%), Germany (+3.0%), and the U.S. (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Israel emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of nan% from 2007-2016. Israel, Italy, Belgium, and France experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Czech Republic (-1.7%), Germany (-2.5%), Turkey (-3.9%), and China (-18.0%) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest nonwoven textile markets worldwide were China ($2.6B), Germany ($1.9B) and the U.S. ($1.7B), together comprising 45% of global exports.Italy, France, Turkey, Belgium, Czech Republic, Spain, Israel, Thailand and Malaysia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Turkey (+18.2% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of nonwoven textile exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Nonwoven Textile Export Prices By Country

The average nonwoven textile export price stood at $4,079 per tonne in 2016, coming down by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, nonwoven textile export price continues to indicate a slight decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, an increase of 11% from the previous year level. In that year, average nonwoven textile export price reached its maximum level of $5,047 per tonne. From 2012 to 2016, growth of average nonwoven textile export price stood at a somewhat lower level.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Belgium ($6,604 per tonne), while Malaysia ($2,238 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of nonwoven textile export prices was attained by China (+2.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
