Which Country Exports the Most Metal Complete and Assembled Domestic Furniture in the World?

In 2016, the global exports of metal furniture totaled 24M tonnes, picking up by 12% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when exports increased by 36% from the previous year level. Global metal furniture export peaked in 2016, and are likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, metal furniture exports amounted to $79B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Global metal furniture export peaked of $82B in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Metal Furniture Exports By Country

In 2016, China (7.2M tonnes) was the major exporter for metal furniture, generating 30% of total exports. Poland (2.3M tonnes) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by Italy (1.7M tonnes), and Germany (1.7M tonnes). All these countries together held approx. 24% share of total exports. The following exporters - Viet Nam (1M tonnes), Canada (721K tonnes), the U.S. (715K tonnes), Lithuania (687K tonnes), Sweden (600K tonnes), Malaysia (591K tonnes), Turkey (525K tonnes), and Denmark (445K tonnes) together made up 22% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +8.5% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Turkey (+12.1%), Viet Nam (+7.7%), Lithuania (+6.7%), Poland (+4.3%), Germany (+1.3%), Canada (+1.3%), and the U.S. (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Turkey emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2007-2016. Italy, and Malaysia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Sweden (-1.0%), and Denmark (-3.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2007 to 2016, the share of Viet Nam, Poland, and China decreased by -2.1%, -3.0%, and -15.8% percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, China ($26B) remains the largest metal furniture supplier in the world, making up 33% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Germany ($7.2B), with the share of 9% of global exports. It was followed by Italy, with the share of 9%.

In China, metal furniture exports stood at an average annual rate of +9.1% over the period from 2007-2016. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+0.7% per year) and Italy (-2.5% per year).

Metal Furniture Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for metal furniture amounted to $3,308 per tonne, declining by -12.9% against the previous year. In general, metal furniture export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when export price increased by 9% from the previous year level. Global metal furniture export peaked of $3,797 per tonne in 2015, falling back in the following year.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Germany ($4,256 per tonne), while Lithuania ($1,609 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of metal furniture export prices was attained by Viet Nam (+2.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
