In 2016, the global laser exports totaled 504K tonnes, lowering by -25.7% against the previous year figure. Overall, it indicated a slight growth from 2007 to 2016: the total exports volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, laser exports decreased by -45.5% against its level of 2013. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when export increased by 19% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global laser exports attained its maximum volume of 926K tonnes in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, laser exports amounted to $64B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a moderate growth from 2007 to 2016: the total exports value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, laser exports decreased by -26.2% against its level of 2012. Over the period under review, global laser exports reached its maximum level of $87B in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Laser Exports By Country

China (212K tonnes), and South Korea (201K tonnes) prevails in laser exports structure, together constituting 82% of total exports. China, Hong Kong SAR (45K tonnes) held a 9% share (based on tonnes) of global laser exports, which put it in second place, following Japan (5%).

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of laser exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by China, Hong Kong SAR (+10.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China ($29B), South Korea ($16B) and Japan ($4.8B) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together accounting for 78% of global exports.

Japan (+4.9% per year) experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to the laser exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Laser Export Prices By Country

The average laser export price stood at $127 per kg in 2016, ascending by 15% against the previous year. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +1.1%.The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016, when export increased by 15% from the previous year level. In that year, average laser export price reached its maximum level, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($205 per kg), while China, Hong Kong SAR ($64 per kg) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of laser export prices was attained by Japan (+2.7% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
