Which Country Exports the Most Iron Sheet Piling, Shapes and Sections in the World?

In 2016, approx. 2.3M tonnes of sheet piling were exported worldwide; growing by 7% against the previous year level. In general, sheet piling exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when it surged by 29% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, global sheet piling exports reached its maximum volume of 2.4M tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, sheet piling exports totaled $1.8B in 2016. In general, sheet piling exports continue to indicate a moderate curtailment. In that year, global sheet piling exports attained its maximum level of $2.7B. From 2009 to 2016, growth of global sheet piling exports stood at a somewhat lower level.

Sheet Piling Exports By Country

Luxembourg (554K tonnes), and China (395K tonnes) represented the major exporters of sheet piling in 2016, amounting to near 24%, and 17% of total exports, respectively. Japan (233K tonnes) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Bahrain (190K tonnes), Czech Republic (163K tonnes), and South Korea (140K tonnes). All these countries together occupied near 31% share of total exports. The following exporters - Poland (105K tonnes), the Netherlands (94K tonnes), Germany (57K tonnes), the U.S. (56K tonnes), and Thailand (54K tonnes) together made up 16% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of sheet piling exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Bahrain (+22.0% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Luxembourg ($431M) remains the largest sheet piling supplier in the world, making up 23% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($213M), with the share of 12% of global exports. It was followed by Bahrain, with the share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual growth rate of value of sheet piling exports in Luxembourg decreased by -4.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+7.1% per year) and Bahrain (+18.1% per year).

Sheet Piling Export Prices By Country

The average sheet piling export price stood at $790 per tonne in 2016, descending by -9.5% against the previous year. In general, sheet piling export price continues to indicate a mild contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, when export increased by 42% year-to-year. In that year, average sheet piling export price attained its maximum level of $1,318 per tonne. From 2009 to 2016, growth of average sheet piling export price stood at a somewhat lower level.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was the U.S. ($1,616 per tonne), while Thailand ($477 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of sheet piling export prices was attained by the U.S. (+0.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.
