The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, when it surged by 10% from the previous year level. Global gypsum export peaked in 2016, and are likely to continue its growth in the near future.

In value terms, gypsum exports stood at $1B in 2016. In general, gypsum exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In that year, global gypsum exports reached its maximum level of $1.1B. From 2009 to 2016, growth of global gypsum exports stood at a somewhat lower level.

Gypsum Exports By Country

In 2016, Thailand (8M tonnes), distantly followed by Spain (5.3M tonnes), Mexico (3.3M tonnes), Iran (2.6M tonnes), and Germany (2M tonnes) represented the key exporters of gypsum, together mixed up 69% of total exports. Canada (1.2M tonnes), Oman (1,000K tonnes), Pakistan (780K tonnes), Turkey (576K tonnes), France (556K tonnes), and South Korea (476K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of gypsum exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by South Korea (+48.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Thailand ($192M), Germany ($122M) and Spain ($76M) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together accounting for 38% of global exports. These countries were followed by Iran, Oman, France, Turkey, Mexico, Pakistan, Canada and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 28%.

Oman (+48.8% per year) had the highest growth rate of gypsum exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Gypsum Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for gypsum amounted to $34 per tonne, approximately mirroring the previous year level. Overall, gypsum export price continues to indicate a mild deduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2008, when export increased by 13% against the previous year level. Global gypsum export peaked of $45 per tonne in 2010; however, from 2011 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was France ($94 per tonne), while Mexico ($9 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of gypsum export prices was attained by Oman (+14.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
