Which Country Exports the Most Flax Woven Fabrics in the World?

Global flax fabric imports totaled 43K tonnes in 2016, descending by -14.3% against the previous year figure. Overall, flax fabric imports continue to indicate a drastic setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, an increase of 12% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global flax fabric imports attained its maximum volume of 92K tonnes in 2007- however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, flax fabric imports stood at $750M in 2016. Overall, flax fabric imports continue to indicate a deep shrinkage. Global flax fabric import peaked of $1.4B in 2007- however, from 2008 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Flax Fabric Imports By Country

The imports of the three major importers of flax fabric, namely the U.S., Italy, and South Korea, represented more than fourth of total import. Viet Nam (2.4K tonnes) took the second position in the ranking, followed by the Netherlands (2.3K tonnes). All these countries together took approx. 11% share of total imports. The UK (1.6K tonnes), China (1.5K tonnes), Japan (1.4K tonnes), China, Hong Kong SAR (1.4K tonnes), France (1.2K tonnes), Lithuania (1.2K tonnes), and Turkey (973 tonnes) held the slight share of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of flax fabric imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Viet Nam (+17.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($112M) constitutes the largest market for imported flax fabric worldwide, making up 15% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Italy ($56M), with the share of 7% of global imports. It was followed by China, with the share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of flax fabric imports in the U.S. decreased by -4.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Italy (-5.0% per year) and China (-9.2% per year).

Flax Fabric Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for flax fabric amounted to $18 per kg, moving up by 3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when it surged by 22% against the previous year level. Global flax fabric import peaked of $18 per kg in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was China ($29 per kg), while South Korea ($8,386 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of flax fabric import prices was attained by China, Hong Kong SAR (+8.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
