Which Country Exports the Most Figs in the World?

Global fig exports amounted to 128 thousand tonnes in 2015, descending by -4.7% against the previous year level. Overall, the global fig exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.8% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013, when the output figure increased by +18% from the previous year level. In that year, the global fig exports attained its maximum volume of 138 thousand tonnes. From 2014 to 2015, the total fig exports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $429 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +6.1%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Fig Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the fig exports in absolute volumes was Turkey (67 thousand tonnes), accounting for 53% of global exports. It was followed by Spain (7 thousand tonnes), with a share of 5% of global exports. Moreover, fig exports in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, Spain, tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Afghanistan with a share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of fig exports in Turkey stood at +4.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Spain (+4.5% per year) and Afghanistan (+563.8% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of exports of fig in absolute volumes was Turkey (252 million USD), making up 59% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Afghanistan (25 million USD), with a share of 6% of global exports. Moreover, fig exports in Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Afghanistan (25 million USD), tenfold. It was followed by the United States with a share of 4%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of fig exports in Turkey was at +5.2%. The remaining exporting countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Afghanistan (+6.2% per year) and the United States (+5.0% per year).
