Which Country Exports the Most Canary Seeds in the World?

Global canary seed exports amounted to 193 thousand tonnes in 2015, falling by -11.7% against the previous year level. Overall, the global canary seed exports indicated a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume decreased at an average annual rate of -1.7% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +29% from the previous year level. In that year, the global canary seed exports attained its maximum volume of 286 thousand tonnes. From 2009 to 2015, the total canary seed exports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $123 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +1.8%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Canary Seed Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the canary seed exports in absolute volumes was Canada (149 thousand tonnes), accounting for 77% of global exports. It was followed by Argentina (15 thousand tonnes), with a share of 8% of global exports. Moreover, canary seed exports in Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, Argentina, tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Belgium with a share of 6%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of canary seed exports in Canada stood at -2.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Argentina (+7.3% per year) and Belgium (-3.3% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of exports of canary seed in absolute volumes was Canada (95 million USD), making up 78% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Belgium (9 million USD), with a share of 7% of global exports. Moreover, canary seed exports in Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Belgium (9 million USD), more than tenfold. It was followed by Argentina with a share of 7%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of canary seed exports in Canada was at +1.0%. The remaining exporting countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Belgium (+1.3% per year) and Argentina (+9.2% per year).
