Which Country Exports the Most Animal Feeding in the World?

IndexBox has just published a new report "World: Preparations Used In Animal Feeding - Market Report. Analysis And Forecast To 2025". Here is a summary of the report's key findings.

In 2016, the global imports of animal feed amounted to 22M tonnes, approximately reflecting the previous year level. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2007 to 2016- however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010, when import increased by 14% year-to-year. Over the period under review, global animal feed imports reached its maximum volume in 2016, and are likely to continue its growth in the near future.

In value terms, animal feed imports stood at $24B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a remarkable growth from 2007 to 2016: the total imports value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, animal feed imports decreased by -8.5% against its level of 2014. Global animal feed import peaked of $26B in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Animal Feed Imports By Country

Germany (2M tonnes), the Netherlands (1.9M tonnes), Belgium (1.6M tonnes), the UK (1.1M tonnes), France (971K tonnes), Ireland (756K tonnes), Indonesia (725K tonnes), South Korea (604K tonnes), Italy (585K tonnes), Poland (580K tonnes), Canada (551K tonnes), and Japan (444K tonnes) represented roughly 54% of total imports of animal feed in 2016.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of animal feed imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by South Korea (+14.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest animal feed markets worldwide were Germany ($1.8B), the UK ($1.2B) and Belgium ($1.1B), together accounting for 18% of global imports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, France, Japan, Canada, Italy, Indonesia, Poland, South Korea and Ireland, which together accounted for a further 29%.

South Korea (+9.9% per year) experienced the highest growth rate of animal feed imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Animal Feed Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for animal feed amounted to $1,085 per tonne, falling by -2.3% against the previous year. Over the last nine years it increased at an average annual rate of +1.3%.The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008, an increase of 15% year-to-year. Global animal feed import peaked of $1,196 per tonne in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Import prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest import prices was Japan ($2,267 per tonne), while Ireland ($470 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of animal feed import prices was attained by Japan (+3.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
