Which Country Exports the Most Air Or Vacuum Pumps in the World?

In 2016, approx. 4.7M tonnes of pump were exported worldwide; rising by 15% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations over the period under review. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2010, when exports increased by 22% year-to-year. Global pump export peaked of 4.7M tonnes in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2016.

In value terms, pump exports stood at $67B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Over the period under review, global pump exports attained its maximum level of $76B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Pump Exports By Country

China (1.6M tonnes) represented the major exporting country with an export of around 1.6M tonnes, which recorded 35% of total exports. Germany (444K tonnes) took a 9% share (based on tonnes) of global pump exports, which put it in second place, following Italy (7%), and Mexico (5%). Japan (211K tonnes), South Korea (204K tonnes), Thailand (133K tonnes), Brazil (129K tonnes), Slovakia (124K tonnes), Belgium (117K tonnes), Hungary (110K tonnes), and France (105K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +10.7% from 2007 to 2016. At the same time, Hungary (+12.1%), Slovakia (+6.2%), South Korea (+3.7%), Italy (+2.8%), Thailand (+2.8%), and Germany (+1.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +12.1% from 2007-2016. Belgium experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Japan (-2.7%), Mexico (-3.3%), Brazil (-6.4%), and France (-7.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. France (2%), Brazil (2%), and Mexico (2%) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Hungary, Italy, and China saw its share reduced by -1.5%, -1.6%, and -20.9% from 2007 to 2016, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest pump markets worldwide were China ($13B), Germany ($9B) and Japan ($5.1B), with a combined 40% share of global exports.Italy, South Korea, Mexico, Thailand, France, Belgium, Hungary, Slovakia and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 27%.

Thailand (+10.5% per year) experienced the highest rates of growth with regard to the pump exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Pump Export Prices By Country

The average pump export price stood at $14 per kg in 2016, coming down by -13.8% against the previous year. Overall, pump export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2009, when export increased by 6% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, average pump export price reached its maximum level of $17 per kg in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was Japan ($24 per kg), while Brazil ($4,837 per tonne) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of pump export prices was attained by Mexico (+10.3% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
